Soulful Splendors of Spring

“Nothing ever seems impossible in spring, you know,” L.M. Montgomery wrote in Anne of Ingleside.

Spring is a grand display of nature returning to life! It is showcased in flowers blooming, trees budding, and animals birthing. These scenes are wonders we never tire of, do we? They reminds of us hope. Life is created and life renews.

It’s as if God creates new life in spring to remind us of Jesus’ resurrection, his transformative power, and the resurrection we have in him.

Certainly, God’s creation reveals his wonders! “For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities – his eternal power and divine nature – have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse” (Romans 1:20 NIV).

Have you allowed yourself lately the pleasures of pondering the works of the Creator? “And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good” (Genesis 1:31a ESV).

The marvelous designs of plants and animals have the signature of a creative God. Their colors, textures, and sounds point to a masterful artist. Their internal engineering points to a brilliant designer. Their various styles and sizes point to detail-oriented sculptor.

As we look upon aspects of nature, we can see parallels to a faithful walk with God.

As seeds develop into life, so our seeds of faith develop as we grow in Christ.

“So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness (Colossians 2:6-7 NIV, letter S in Keep on Track Volume 2).

As flowers waft their fragrance, so our life of faith is a fragrant aroma of Christ.

“But thanks be to God, who… through us spreads the fragrance of the knowledge of him everywhere” (2 Corinthians 2:14 ESV).

As the fruit of plants ripen, so the fruit of the Spirit ripens in us.

Jesus says, “If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit” (John 15:5b NIV).

As songs of birds fill the air, so our songs of praise fill the heavens.

“I will sing to the LORD all my life. I will sing praise to my God as long as I live” (Psalm 104:33 NIV, letter I in Do LAPS! Volume 2).

As creatures have defense mechanisms, so God gives us his armor of protection.

“Put on the full armor of God so that you can your stand against the devil’s schemes” (Ephesians 11:6 NIV, part of letter P in Keep on Track).

As weeds need to be pulled, so weeds of ungodliness need to be uprooted.

“Above all else guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it” (Proverbs 4:23 NIV, letter A in Keep on Track Volume 2).

As we grow in Christ, let’s remember that we are a beautiful creation of our loving, gracious God.

When you work through a Heart Training book, you’ll be growing your faith each day!
