Time sure flies! One third of the calendar year is now behind us.
When it’s said like that it sounds like a lot. In the scope of our life, though, it’s not so substantial. In the centuries of life on Earth, it represents a snippet of time. In the realm of eternity, it is but a breath.
But it is our breath, given by God to glorify him throughout each of our days. When it’s put like that, the time span again becomes significant, doesn’t it?
The Westminster Catechism states that the chief end of man is to glorify God and enjoy him forever. The focus of our life should be on God and in doing so we delight in him!
Focusing on God takes both humbly surrendering to him and willingly trusting in him. Doing so shifts our perspective onto him, off ourselves. The Holy Spirit’s work in us helps us live more in line with Jesus’ commands to love God and love others.
Are we preparing for eternity with our Savior?
As Christ followers, we connect with the God of the universe. Do we develop this relationship through prayer, praise, and learning from his Word? Even when we struggle because of our faith, we can rejoice, pray, and give God thanks (1 Thessalonians 5:15-18). Are these our first responses? This glorifies God and helps us remember that he is good, he loves us, and his ways are best.
As Christ followers, we store up treasures for our eternity with God, by pursuing “righteousness, godliness, faith, love, steadfastness, and gentleness” (1 Timothy 6:11b NIV). We are to actively “seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God” (Colossians 3:1 ESV). Our daily life – in thoughts, words, and deeds, is to be set apart for him and please him as an act of worship to God (Romans 12:1).
As Christ followers, we live out our faith on purpose. Our faith is evidenced by the fruit of the Spirit at work in us (Galatians 5:22-23) and by our actions (James 2:17). “Let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven” (Matthew 5:16 ESV, letter L in Keep on Track Volume 2).
In love and with gratitude, let’s live each day for God’s glory! “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them” (Ephesians 2:10 ESV).
Make time each day to pursue God and his truth as you work through a Heart Training book.
