Standing Firm

It can be hard to take a stand for what’s right when no one else is. It can be even harder to continually do what is right if it always results in suffering. What about if the ‘doing right’ is preaching Jesus and worshiping him?

In many places around the world, Christians risk their jobs, their family relationships, their safety, or their lives as they bravely choose Jesus over the alternative. Jesus said that such believers are blessed. “Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account” (Matthew 5:10-11 ESV). Because Jesus intensely suffered for them, they are willing to suffer for him. They have hope and perspective: “Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you” (Matthew 5:12 ESV). May this challenge us to boldly stand for Jesus and persevere in faithfulness to him.

Let’s pray for our persecuted family of believers:

God, thank you for allowing us communion with you through Jesus, who is “the way and the truth and the life” (John 14:6a). May we live this truth each day. You see and you know those who are intensely suffering in Jesus’ name. May they experience you in powerful ways only possible through such overwhelming situations as persecution. Give them your grace that is sufficient. Comfort them in ways that strengthen and heal. Fill them with hope through your Holy Spirit. Remind them that they are blessed.

You can bless the persecuted family of believers with your prayers as you use a Heart Training Bible verse study and memory book.
