No Turning Back

I have decided to follow Jesus – no turning back.

The world behind me, the cross before me – no turning back.

Though none go with me, still I will follow – no turning back.

These words of the old song I Have Decided to Follow Jesus remind us of what converts uphold as they live for Jesus in countries that do not accept the Christian faith. These believers count the cost, even if it means rejection from family to the point of death threats. We recall Peter’s rejection of Jesus on the night of the betrayal. Have we also found ourselves guilty of rejecting Jesus when our actions or words knowingly go against him? For most of us, our present life situation is not on the line as we live out our faith. But for our persecuted brothers and sisters in the Lord, that is too often the case. They are an example to us of being strong in our decision to follow Jesus. May we choose to not turn back to our own ways, but rather to follow Jesus until the end, in his strength.

Let’s pray, using Hebrews 10 as our guide, for the persecuted family of God:

Our Father in Heaven, you know each one of your children, every detail and thought. We bring before you our brothers and sisters who are being oppressed as they live out their faith. In your grace and love, assure them of your presence as they draw near to you with sincere hearts. By your strength, help them hold tightly to the hope they profess in Jesus, their Savior. With your power, give them courage to persevere in your will. In doing so, may they point others to the truth and mercy of Christ. Thank you for your faithfulness.
