A Day’s Gift

A Day’s Gift

Some days seem better than others, don’t they?

Some days seem so amazing or so peaceful. Others feel dull or exceedingly difficult. The extent of what each day holds, only God knows. And, each day that we have breath is a gift from our creator.

How do we handle this gift of life each day?

Do we live with a mindset as God’s creation or with a mindset of being self-made?

As those around the throne of God declare, may we also acknowledge, “’You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being’” (Revelation 4:11 NIV).

In light of “the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God,” Paul (in Romans 11:33-12:2) urges us to replace our will with God’s will. This act of worship in our life should be an outflow of thankfulness for God’s mercy and forgiveness through Jesus. He lovingly provides his children present life and eternal life with him.

Therefore “whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him” (Colossians 3:17 ESV). Moreso, we should be zealous for the good works that God graciously call us to as we await the return of Jesus (Titus 2:11-14).

The holy, omnipotent, and sovereign God allows us to serve him. He is all-sufficient – and from him we are filled.

Each role of service he calls us to – in each stage of our life and in each situation – is important in God’s eyes as we do his will. Loving him fully and honoring him wholeheartedly is our utmost calling. Through this, we are able to grow deeper in relationship with Jesus and grow in godliness in times of waiting, in times of serving others, and in times of being ministered to by others. The lovingkindness of our God works in us and through us for his glory. When we look around, we can see how the different ways in which he designed us allow us to be used in various ways for his kingdom purposes.

As believers, we are children of light (Ephesians 5:8) and citizens of Heaven (Philippians 3:20).

Do we think and act like we are? Is our allegiance to the light of the world (John 8:12), the King of kings (Revelation 19:16)? Is our conversation and our activity set apart from the world’s ways? Do we defer to what our leader, God, expects and are we growing in knowledge of our eternal destination?

All things considered, just getting through the day on our own terms cannot be the mindset of a Christ follower.

Each day is a gift to know God more fully, love him more deeply, serve him more joyfully. This, in turn, will be a gift to others as we live out God’s ways.

Start each day growing closer to God when you use a Heart Training Bible verse study and memory book.
